The Kobe Bryant saga gets underway on Tuesday night as the Lakers and Rockets open the season at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Kobe is the subject of trade rumors as many people believe he will be traded within the next couple of weeks. He is expected to be in uniform for the Lakers on Tuesday night. "I'm still a Laker. I'm here. I'm ready to play," Bryant said, "My focus is here with this ball club. Wherever I play, I'll be ready. I'm focusing on this team. Dr. Buss said business is business. I understand that."
The Lakers did not make many changes in the off-season. The only move of note was brining back guard Derek Fisher who was part of the championship teams between 1999 and 2002.
SBG Global reports that early betting has the public taking Rockets on the Road.
Houston made quite a few changes in the off-season. They signed Steve Francis and traded for Mike James. They also have a new coach in the offense-minded Rick Adelman instead of the defensive guru Jeff Van Gundy. The Rockets are still led by Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady. Yao averaged a career-high 25.0 points and 9.4 rebounds last year. McGrady averaged 24.6 points, 6.5 assists and 5.3 rebounds per game.
Houston and the Lakers split four games last year. Yao averaged 33.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 4.7 blocked shots in three games against the Lakers. Kobe averaged 37.3 points versus the Rockets a year ago. Los Angeles will be without forward Lamar Odom who is still recovering from off-season shoulder surgery.
