Upsets Rule First Leg of MLS Playoffs

The MLS Playoff Betting saw three of the four lower seeds winning against higher seeds this past week. Three 1-0 wins and a draw have the higher seeds in a little bit of trouble entering the final leg games this weekend. The top seeds are not in huge trouble but each of them must win their games and have no margin for error. The one team that is in good shape is New England since they head home after a draw against New York. The other top seeds all lost by scores of 1-0 in their games.
You might want to remember in MLS Playoff action that a #1 seed has lost in each of the past two seasons in the first round to a #4 seed. The team that could be in the most trouble is D.C. United. They are not fully healthy and have not had success in the past against Chicago. MLS Golden Boot winner Luciano Emilio is still not 100% and Jaime Moreno also hasn’t shown much. Chivas USA may not be in quite as much trouble since they are the best home team in the league and Kansas City has not shown they can win consistently on the road. The problem for Chivas is that they are missing strikers Maykel Galindo and Ante Razov. They need Sacha Kljestan and Francisco Mendoza to come through.
#2 seed New England is in the best shape since after the draw on the road they just need to win at home. New York has not won at New England in the last 13 tries.
Another top seed in trouble is Houston. It was expected that FC Dallas would be an easy mark for Houston but that was not the case in the first leg. Houston didn’t even get a shot in the first half and that is a real problem heading into the second leg where they must win. The good news for Houston is they have a solid home field edge and are expecting a sellout for Friday’s game.
Second leg MLS playoff betting action gets underway on Thursday as Chicago is at D.C. United. This game will be televised on ESPN 2. Friday’s game has FC Dallas at Houston. Saturday action has New York at New England and Kansas City at Chivas USA.
